The MEERKAT team met the University of Sussex in 2014 following a referral from a creative agency. We were invited to pitch for the University’s student recruitment campaign media buying and, after a thorough analysis of the University’s objectives and much creative thinking, went on to win the tender.
The University of Sussex is a leading further education and research institution set in the beautiful Downs National Park near Brighton. As well as their impressive academic record, they are known for their international and local outlook, with staff and students from more than 100 countries and strong ties to the vibrant community culture in Brighton.
To plan, negotiate and buy a campaign to increase awareness amongst the target audience and attendance at Open Days, with the broader aim of boosting the recruitment of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The MEERKATs deftly negotiated prime outdoor formats, including static and digital sites, to reach target audiences in specific geographical areas at key points in the recruitment cycle. These were combined with select national press titles to precisely target students and their parents during ‘Clearing’.
The campaign impacted over 35 million people, and the University of Sussex were successful in filling all available spaces resulting in early closing of the ‘Clearing’ period.
MEERKAT continued to work on the 2016 campaign and were delighted to win a new 3 year contract.
I really enjoy working with the MEERKATs. They have worked with us as part our team to develop media plans that precisely target our key audiences at crucial points in the decision making process. Coupled with a really strong creative, MEERKAT have helped us to stand out from other universities and reach potential students who have a desire to make a difference.
